“By studying at IU, students will gain valuable experience and essential skills to develop their professional expertise and pursue a wide range of careers that require linguistic skills” said THAI THI NGOC TRAM – K17
After 4 years of studying here, what impressed me the most was the IU’s curriculum because the course-books here are renewed and updated regularly, so what I learned was very close to what linguistic students around the world are studying. Therefore, I feel it is very easy to exchange knowledge and learn from them, as well as confident that I have enough professional foundation to pursue higher education in other foreign countries if I want to.
In the past 4 years, in addition to major courses on Linguistics or English Language Teaching, I also studied some other subjects such as Presentation skills and participated in some competitions such as Student Research Contest. These competitions helped me gain confidence in speaking in public, and improve my skills in understanding different cultures, which equipped me with the confidence to take part in interviews and stand in front of potential employers.
Before graduation, the lecturers in the School of Languages did talk to me about the career directions I could pursue after graduation. They introduced me to the companies or institutes where they had relationships with to help me and my peers connect with the outside world in both translation and teaching.
If a grade 12 student asked me whether they should study at IU or not, I would advise them to confidently pursue their studies at IU. This is because IU has dedicated and professional lecturers, a constantly updated curriculum, and modern facilities. By studying at IU, students will gain valuable experience and essential skills to develop their professional expertise and pursue a wide range of careers that require linguistic skills. In addition, IU offers extracurricular activities that provide students with many programs and opportunities to experience and learn to develop their soft skills. Through this, students will undoubtedly become more well-rounded individuals.
“At International University, beside the lecturers’ professionalism and devotion, they provided the students with the up-to-date knowledge in linguistics” said Tran Duc Minh – K18
For four years, there were a lot of memories, but what struck me most was the professionalism of my lecturers, which created a welcoming environment. Through my experience here, I’ve gained not only academic knowledge in English linguistics and literature but also valuable life lessons, and this made me become more mature in thinking about life and learning. It seems that my lecturers are my second family and they have supported me a lot.
English is considered as an international language, so having experienced and mastered this language would bring huge advantages in many fields. For example, regarding my piano department, if there is some international cooperation between the Conservatory of Ho Chi Minh City and Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory or ErasmusAkademia Muzyczna, I’ll be nominated to interpret or have conversations with professors from those schools. This also offers my school many opportunities of collaboration with other conservatories. Well, as you know, in Vietnam, English is not really popular with art people, so having a person who could speak English in this field will create more excellent possibilities as well as direct our art industry to approach other art branches of the world.
If a grade 12 student comes and asks me if he or she should study English linguistics at International University, my answer will definitely be “YES”. Well, at International University, beside the lecturers’ professionalism and devotion, they provided the students with the up-to-date knowledge in linguistics. Acquiring the knowledge in this area, students will feel confident as they are studying the programme of international standard. This would bring more opportunities and skills that grade 12 students need to further their education. They could get a master’s degree overseas, then come back and contribute to their country.
There are many things I was impressed with, but the most impressive thing was how the teachers worked. They were very professional and always created a friendly environment for students to comfortably share their knowledge and concerns” said PHAM QUANG DUY – K18

The knowledge learnt here helps me a lot in my teaching job. I was provided with not only foundation knowledge but also advanced skills such as English teaching methodologies and classroom management. In addition, the projects and internship programs also helped me gain more useful experience for my job.
I was lucky to be in the English Speaking Club organized by the Department, where I could learn teamwork, planning, and public speaking skills, etc. These skills are very important for my current job.
I think that there are a lot of things that only when you are actually exposed will you realize. So, my advice would be to listen to your passion.
