  • Course description: This course introduces basic concepts in research paper writing, especially the role of generalizations, definitions, classifications, and the structure of a research paper to students who attend English-medium colleges or universities. It also provides them with methods of developing and presenting an argument, a comparison or a contrast. Students are required to work on the tasks selected to maximize their exposure to written communication and are expected to become competent writers in the particular genre: the research paper. As writing is part of an integrated skill of reading and writing where reading serves as input to trigger writing, this course is designed to familiarize non-native students with academic literature in their major study by having them read and critically respond to texts of a variety of topics ranging from natural sciences such as biology to social sciences and humanities like education, linguistics and psychology.
